Be Still

We learned from Elijah (1 Kings 19:11-19) after he ran away from Jezebel’s threat to terminate his life when he was hiding in a cave at Mt Horeb that God was in a still small voice and not in the wind, earthquake or fire. It is a picture of how we as believers must somehow find God in the stillness of a moment despite the flurry of activities we are physically doing or the emotional turmoil we may be going through or the thousand and one thoughts going through our minds. We can not find God in all those swirling moments as He can only be found in a still small voice. Still means we are not moving, just being alone with Him. Small means it is soft, hardly audible. It is not dramatic, not loud, and not spectacular. And voice means it’s the voice of God speaking to us in our spirit. In song, we sing that in worship, we see You face to face. Because in worship, we worship in spirit (our spirit with God) and in truth (as in the words and our heart).

However, today’s Word in Psalm 46 has a somewhat different slant to it. The LORD says, “Be still and know that I am God.” It means that we have to be still to hear that still small voice, and yet it’s an exaltation and encouragement from the LORD that He is God. That means that we must trust Him in faith that He is who He is and who He says He is. Like the photo in the life story in today’s ODB, He can pick us out in sharp focus from all the millions around us, from all the traffic and activities surrounding us, blurring out everything else and just looking at us. Jesus is saying He is with us. He knows what to do. He hears us and sees us.

Be confident to walk on in faith and to stick with our principles in God. Life pressures may bend us, but do not be swayed. Do not yield to the attractions of the world or the temptations of the evil one. Stay on the narrow path of righteousness. God is and will be with us all the way, and when we see the missing footsteps in the sand, we know those are the times Jesus carried us in His arms; for to Jesus, we ain’t heavy, we are His brother and sister. Commit our plans and aspirations to Him, and He will give us rest. For His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Have a good day ahead and the remaining week. I have not posted for nearly a week as I have been down with a bad bout of cold with a sore throat and high fever for the past few days. Praise the Lord, I’m now on the road to full recovery!
